Easier to Learn

I have noticed that in learning it appears to be easier when the subject is new and you have no prior context, so we usually say its easier for children to learn such and such. For me, I have learned and cemented so much that in order to learn new things I will need to relate to what I already know. So things may make more sense...as such making analogies helps with understanding. Throwing words at me like "database"  & "schema" may sound impressive, however, when I was a boy in high school we used tables for scientific data that were way more complicated! So don't believe the hype, the buzz words may throw us off initially, but as long as I can relate then its actually trivial.

I often end up saying, oh that's what it is, with and underwhelming sigh! Hoping the have been impressed initially...

Ainsley vs. Ainsley Pt. 2

So it has been about four years since I my first 5K during the lunch hour at work. I will say that today I was pleasantly surprised that my older self is did very well.

I will therefore reiterate my post from March 30, 2012

"I have come to the conclusion that in order to truly succeed it is ourselves that we must first overcome. Nothing new being stated here, but to actually realize it in a real way makes the world of a difference. Today I won the race, no I did not place first and my time was no where near a world record, however, it was my best. I ran and I won, I beat me, I overcame."

Until next time, walk good.

The Marley Musical at Centerstage in Baltimore, a must see; Broadway here they come!

I recently had the absolute pleasure of attending the Marley Musical in Baltimore recently. To enter the building was to walk back in time to Kingston, Jamaica in the late 70s. The entrance was very well done..., the vibe, the energy and the people. Everyone was there to have a great time and that we did. In spite of what may have caused the difficulties then and what may be happening around us today, for a short span of time, all was well with the world again!

I suppose this is part of the magic of theatre. Where we can express ourselves and create the world in which we would rather be. The production was superbly done, the cast held their own in bringing the scenes to life and the music was impeccable.

Until next time walk good.

Happy New Year!

As we approach the start of yet another year; 2014 offers a real opportunity to start over, to do better to do more and just be! Time marches on and yes youth may be wasted on the young? Or is it that with time you start wanting to do more. Is it possible that one gets drawn in many directions and tries to meet all of life's demands and simply finds that there is just not enough time? If we should focus on what is import then we will find that the time given to us is sufficient so we must use it wisely. It has been said that we are all given the same 24 hours every day, how we choose to use it is an entirely different matter.

So as we welcome the new year, lets make the most of it. Go with God.

Until next time. Walk good!

PCLinuxOS: "Finally Found What I was Looking for!"

Now here is the thing, I was resolute to have a solution in place within days, by the weekend at least. So what really happened. Just over 24 hours ago, I lost it on my machine (my beloved Dell Precision M6500). After tolerating no real functioning wireless device that fuelled no love for Broadcom and being limited by a less than a full featured Nvidia video card, I decided to make a move to improve my dormant state and get out of the "woe is me" life I have chosen (life with Linux on the Laptop that is).

Knowing that there had to be a solution, I broke the OS that had been good to me for several months now, no regrets, she was meant for the big times and deserved more than I could give, parting was such sweet sorry. I then quickly moved on to others I had been with in the past, but was soon reminded why we never made it in the first place.

Still resolute to find a solution I kept looking, then finally I came across, the one (the new OS, flavor of the month); yes, this could be the one. So far, a short encounter has me thinking that this is the start of something really special. The beginning of a long term relationship, the kind you take home to mama. So who is she?

PCLinuxOS

Yes indeed, with the live DVD, the Nvidia driver works and the graphics are amazing, not only that, but the Broadcom wireless card now works as well with the live DVD.

For your listening pleasure!

Until next time,
Walk good!
